Pigskin Ponderings
In case you didn’t know, I grew up in and around Dallas, Texas. And I am a HUGE football fan! After watching my beloved Cowboys get crushed by the Vikings (I was in Minneapolis at the game, I might add) and enduring the jeers of the Viking fans, I expected myself to take at east some joy in watching Brett Farve throw the game away at the end of the Vikings/Saints game Sunday, but I felt a strange emptiness, and a sad feeling knowing that he is far too good a quarterback to have his career end on such a play. I felt myself wondering if he would be able to endure another season of all the critics and the hard hits for the possibility of eternal glory of another Super Bowl win.
He looked tired, like maybe this was his last chance at getting two rings instead of just one. One ring to rule them all, one ring to bind them...Oh, sorry. My nerdiness just kicked in. As I was trying to prove that I actually have a streak of manly sports knowledge I start to quote The Lord of the Rings. Once a geek , always a geek, I guess.
Anyway, I know that Brett is going to say the exact same things Tony Romo said last week, “I can’t believe that after all this hard work it’s over yada yada yada...” but I do know one thing. I spite of the fact that this season ended in heartbreak for the Viking and Cowboy fans, (and 29 other teams by the time Super Bowl Sunday is over), there’s always next year. Maybe that’s why we love sports so much. Isn’t it great to be able to start over fresh year after year, saying goodbye to past mistakes and beginning anew? Maybe we should learn to apply those same wonderful lessons in our daily lives. Let the past be the past and focus on our next shot.
Great, now I’m a philosopher! A Geek Philosopher!
OK, now for the important stuff: my Super Bowl prediction. Indianapolis is playing so well, and Manning is truly a force to be reckoned with. But New Orleans seems to be the Team of Destiny. Maybe they can finally take one home! Lord knows the people of New Orleans should have something that cool to ease the pain of so much turmoil. So I’m gonna take a shot and say the Saints will be the Super Bowl champions. Sorry Colts fans. There’s always next year!
Note: The guy who puts my blogs on the Website is a Colts fan. If he changes my prediction, I will see it. (Do you hear me, Dennis?)
And the last thing is the new puppet we’re having made for my One Year Anniversary on March 13th at The Mirage. I can’t tell you how cool it is going to be. I literally just got off the phone with the designers and we made the final decisions on how “it” will look. I’ll Blog at you more about it soon…..Terry
